SAMUEL ALLERTON
Samuel Allerton (b. 1976, Cape Town) is a South African artist. After studying Fine Art at the University of Cape Town’s Michaelis School of Art, Allerton opened his sculpture studio in Franschhoek just outside Cape Town.
Allerton's bronze and resin sculptures deal with nature and the environment. By using humorous, contemporary and primitive imagery, his sculptures pay homage to nature and highlights man's horrific abuse and neglect of the environment.
Allerton's 'Warrior' series is a metaphore of his own children being the new warriors for nature and protectors of the wilderness as well as the future of the planet. He expresses a need to prepare the children of now for the challenges and responsibilites they will face as they take over as the custodians of a damaged and beautiful world.
Since 2003, his sculptures have been exhibited in group and solo exhibitions.
