Born in Hong Kong in 1960, self-taught artist Johnson Tsang is a world-renowned ceramic artist who has earned an international reputation by winning international ceramic competitions in Italy, Korea, Switzerland, Spain and Taiwan.
Tsang’s works mostly employ realist sculptural techniques accompanied by surrealist imaginations. Specializing in ceramics, stainless steel sculpture and public art work, Tsang pushes the boundaries of our imagination. His work is whimisical, lyrical, and provocative and integrate two elements. That of “human beings” and “Objects”. Both are in the hands of Tsang turned into creative and unique realities.
He fabricates his works with great attention to details and perfection. In both 2011 and 2012, Tsang’s works, “Bowls of Fantasy” and “Splash of Wonder”, were awarded the Special Prize of “Korea Gyeonggi International Ceramix Biennale 2011 International Competition” and Grand Prize of “2012 Taiwan International Ceramics Biennale” respectively, the two prestigious international recognitions that are ranked among the world’s top four ceramic art awards.
The artist´s mind-bending sculptures push the limits of imagination and sometimes even of gravity. By turns whimsical, lyrical, and provocative, his works capture the fluidity of both physical motion and human emotion while challenging the viewer to see the world in a different and new way.
Since 1993, Tsang´s works have been exhibited in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Spain, Switzerland and Denmark and also collected by respected museums as well as privat art collectors around the World.
